Traffic survey goes online
Local people and visitors are being asked for their views on gridlock, parking, safety and other issues. Traffic levels are being measured in the town and surrounds.
A âŹ137 million bypass road is planned for Tralee but work on it may not start for several years because of the economic downturn.
Kerry County Council and Tralee Town Council are carrying out the survey which is also looking at how public transport can be improved as well as the situation concerning cyclists and pedestrians. The traffic survey is online at www.traleetrafficsurvey.org
The long-awaited bypass, meanwhile, will be the largest-ever modern roads project in Co Kerry and will cater for almost 19,000 vehicles a day by the year 2026.
A bypass would reduce traffic in Tralee town centre, and enable the free flow of traffic on surrounding roads.
A 15% reduction in fatal accidents should result, according to bypass project manager John Kennelly.
