THE neighbour of the alleged victim in a murder trial told the Central Criminal Court that she heard wailing coming from the woman’s house on the morning she died.

Shauna Mellon said the wailing in the north Derry home of Jean Teresa Quigley lasted for about 10 minutes on July 26, 2008. A postmortem found the 30-year-old mother-of-four was strangled and beaten.

Father-of-one Stephen Cahoon, 37, of Harvey Street, Derry admits killing the mother of his unborn child in her home at Cornshell Fields, Shantallow but pleaded not guilty to the murder of his ex-girlfriend. The trial continues before Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy and a jury of seven women and five men.
