No ‘significant change’ in number of swine flu cases

THERE has been no significant increase in the number of swine flu cases occurring in the community, according to the latest update on the H1N1 virus from the Department of Health.

The department’s chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan said the rate of infection at the end of last week was 37.4 per 100,000, still well below the peak seasonal flu rate of 120 per 100,000.

“We are still very much in the plateau phase and have not seen any significant change in the number of cases occurring in the community at this point,” said Dr Holohan.
