Flash floods hit Limerick and Kerry
In Co Limerick flooding was reported in Athea and Broadford, but according to Garda sources no roads were closed.
Following several hours of heavy rain, several roads were flooded throughout Kerry, but the village of Ardfert appeared to be the worst hit area. Kerry County Council also went to the village to help pump water off the main street and free water traps.
Members of Civil Defence provided sandbags to householders and business owners.
The crossroads at Ballincrossig, between Abbeydorney and Lixnaw, and a section of roadway at Ballyard in Tralee, were also flooded.
The weather was a spoilsport for the third time for racing followers in Killarney. The town had lost a day’s racing on August 20, which was rescheduled for August 26 but had again to be called off.
The fixture had been set to go ahead, yesterday, but had to be called off again after a downpour.
