Toy tower raised in lifeboat fundraiser
Hundreds of children helped with stacking the plastic bricks to create a model of the Elysian Tower in the garden of the multi-storey apartment building which is next to City Hall in the city centre.
The challenge was organised in aid of the Courtmacsherry lifeboat and took place between 11am and 6pm. The architects who designed the Elysian were on hand to assist the children.
Visitors were able to join in the construction of the model tower by buying toy bricks, with each contributor then entered into a raffle.
Those attending the fundraising event were given the opportunity of enjoying the spectacular views of Cork city from the viewing gallery at the top of the new building which is not usually open to the public.
Meanwhile, the real Elysian Tower which opened in September includes a 17-storey tower which, at 71 metres, is Ireland’s tallest building, extending six metres higher than Cork County Hall (65m) and 13 metres higher than Liberty Hall in Dublin (58m).
