Three released in Kilmartin murder probe
A man who was being held at Portlaoise Garda Station, was released last night.
Two people had earlier been held in custody in Tullamore Garda Station.
Officers will today start a review of their investigation and will examine in detail the interviews conducted with the three people.
Detectives will also start following up several fresh pieces of information that were given to gardaí by members of the public in the last two days.
A number of local people contacted gardaí after it emerged that three people had been arrested by officers investigating the brutal murder of 35-year-old Ms Kilmartin.
The mother-of-one left her house in Portlaoise on December 16, 1993, after she received a mysterious phone call from an unidentified male.
Her body, fully clothed, was found concealed in a bog drain in an isolated area 18km from Portlaoise on June 10, 1994.
One man, aged in his 60s, was arrested on Monday morning, in connection with the murder. He was detained under section four of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows for 24 hours in custody, excluding rest periods.
A woman, also aged in her 60s, and a man, aged 42, were also arrested on Monday on suspicion of withholding information related to the murder.
They were detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, which allows for up to three days in custody.
It is understood gardaí are not yet ready to prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions and are likely to conduct further inquiries. Detectives will also examine information given by members of the public in recent days to determine their value.
Meanwhile, gardaí were yesterday still in the early stages of their search for the possible remains of missing Offaly woman Fiona Pender in the Monicknew Wood area of the Slieve Bloom mountains along the Laois-Offaly border.
A team of search specialists, including a large number of defence forces personnel, continued a planned series of searches in designated areas of a two-acre site.
