Fundraising combines with fun day out for fathers

DADS across the south-east will revel in a family-focused fun event this Sunday which celebrates Father’s Day and will help raise needy finance for a good cause.

The Toys 4 Boys event at Tramore Racecourse in Co Waterford on Sunday will feature a host of family attractions, as well as raising funds for the South Eastern Cancer Foundation.

The entrance fee is €15 per adult. Children under 12 accompanying an adult enter free of charge.

Organisers expect a number of “different, exciting aspects of the day” to be a huge hit.

They include exhibitions and stands featuring various gadgets and gismos, top-end electronic equipment such as mobile phones, laptops, computers, golf equipment, gadgets, designer glasses, wine and cigars, gym equipment, bikes and ski gear.

Other ‘toys’ for dads on display include cars, boats, ride on lawnmowers, limos and hummers, quad bikes and vintage cars.

During the afternoon there will be a motor fashion show with cars and fashion models taking part in a display of top-end cars, fire engines, vintage cars, Harley Davidsons and quad bikes.

The Waterford-based search and rescue helicopter will also do a display during the day.

Waterford United players will take part in a kicks-at-goal event, there will also be a mechanical polo horse, golf swing analysis, archery and a hot air balloon.

All funds raised will go to the South East Cancer Foundation, set up in 1999 to provide counselling, reflexology, massage, art therapy, and support to patients and their families.

At present, they arrange approximately 2,000 consultations per annum and now need to double the capacity to serve the growing requirements.

Referrals are made from the South East Regional Hospital, servicing the region of Waterford, Kilkenny, south Tipperary, Carlow and Wexford.

Currently based in a temporary rented suburban home, Waterford City Council recently provided a site on the outer ring road, close to Waterford Regional Hospital for a new purpose-built centre. The SECF aims to raise €1 million in 2008 to complete the centre.
