FOUR nuns left Cork yesterday to join the church’s fight against HIV/AIDS in South Africa.

The Bon Secours Sisters will set up a new mission in the rural Tzaneen diocese, about the size of Ireland, in the Limpopo province and will work with a Christian project administering to people ravaged the illness.

Their community in Cork bade farewell to Sisters Martina Mulcahy and Mary Leamy from the Irish Province and Sisters Nora Erlinda Jiminez Cruz and Rosa Christina Sanchez Chigne from the Peru Province after a special Mass in the Cnoc Muire Convent yesterday morning, concelebrated by Monsignour Kevin O’Callaghan and a number of priests, all of whom have served as part of the Cork and Ross mission in Peru.
