Minister to assess crime in Limerick
Mr Lenihan will be accompanied by Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy.
As well as senior gardaí, Mr Lenihan will meet with community leaders in Southill and Moyross.
He will also get a briefing on the progress of the regeneration plan, which has been drawn up for Moyoss, Southill and Ballinacurra Weston.
The regeneration plans call for the construction of Garda stations in Southill and Moyross to replace the existing stations at Roxboro Road and Mayorstone.
It is believed that Mr Lenihan will also discuss the arming of uniformed garda units in Limerick.
Limerick and Cork have been selected for a pilot scheme to arm a certain number of uniformed gardaí.
The decision has drawn criticism from the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors.
A total of six sergeants and 25 gardaí have been chosen in Limerick to commence a special training course in the use of firearms.
Their training will also involve tactical use of firearms.
This training programme is expected to take up to three months and the uniformed gardaí will then carry firearms in patrol cars when they are on duty.
