Pub shotgun man bailed

A MAN arrested after a pump-action sawn-off shotgun was produced in a crowded pub was released on bail yesterday at Limerick District court.

Pub shotgun man bailed

Garret Fitzgerald, aged 31, from Claughaun Avenue, Garryowen, faces charges of unlawful possession of a shotgun and ammunition at Quilty’s bar, Thomondgate, on March 9. He was given bail by Judge Tom O’Donnell when the court was told there was no garda objection.

Bail was fixed at €250 along with an independent surety of €1,000.

Fitzgerald was ordered to stay away from any witnesses in the case and also to stay away from the Moyross and Caherdavin areas.

The accused has to sign-on three days a week at Henry Street garda station and reside at his mother’s address.

He is due in court again on April 2.

Earlier this month, in an incident, a man who had entered that pub, allegedly with a gun, had to receive hospital treatment after he was badly beaten by two women who managed to disarm him.

The women were in the company of a man who had been wearing a bulletproof vest.
