Foul play ruled out in death outside pub
Anthony Hennessy, 41, who was originally from Cushing Place in Farranree, but who was living in Gurranabraher, Cork, walked into the Mo Chúisle Bar off Blarney Street on the northside of the city just before midnight on Thursday.
The father of four daughters asked to be served, but was refused. He remained on the premises for several minutes before being asked to leave.
Gardaí were called as bar staff escorted him outside.
They were standing with him on the street, and as gardaí arrived on the scene, he collapsed.
Gardaí contacted the emergency services immediately and they rushed to the scene.
They performed CPR before transferring Mr Hennessy by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where doctors continued to work on him.
Despite their attempts, he was pronounced dead at about 1.30am.
Gardaí immediately launched an investigation and sealed off a section of road outside the pub.
They covered a portion of the road just outside the pub with tarpaulin to allow for a full forensic examination which was carried out yesterday.
A team of about 12 gardaí carried out door-to-door enquiries and spoke to a number of witnesses.
CCTV footage from cameras in the area was also examined.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy conducted a postmortem examination on the body late yesterday afternoon.
A Garda spokesman said the results of the postmortem, together with CCTV footage, confirmed the death was not suspicious.
A file will be prepared for the coroner’s office pending an inquest.
