They had been paddling near the shore of the south beach at Skerries when the small vessel was carried out by rising wind. The woman’s partner initially tried to swim out to them but turned back to raise the alarm.

The Skerries RNLI lifeboat was called by the Coast Guard and arrived at the scene quickly, helmed by Conor Walsh with crew David Knight and Robert Morgan.

The woman’s partner had meanwhile gone to a headland known as the Springers and swam out toward the boat with a buoyancy aid. The girl had started swimming to shore at this stage and he secured her with the buoy.

The woman was rescued from the boat by the lifeboat crew.

All three were medically examined by an RNLI medic and given the all-clear.
