Tall ships organiser takes international roles
Architect and chairman of Waterford Airport Nicky Fewer has been appointed a trustee of the Sail Training International charity and deputy chairman of Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge.
As a result, Mr Fewer will be centrally involved in preparatory work on the 2009 Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge which will see ships from numerous countries racing from Spain to Tenerife to Bermuda, and on to the United States and Canada, before coming back across the Atlantic to Belfast.
A partner in the Fewer Harrington Lawlor & Partners architectural practice, Mr Fewer chaired the co-ordinating committee that successfully bid for the Tall Ships Races in 2005.
Made a Freeman of Waterford for his work on that event and his contribution to city life, Mr Fewer has also been appointed a member of the international council of Sail Training International and a director of Tall Ships International, which is responsible for a number of new races and regattas being organised by Sail Training International.
“I’m delighted and honoured to have been asked to come on board and make an ongoing input to the valuable work of Sail Training International. I look forward to contributing in any way that I can to the work of both Tall Ships International and Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge,” he said.
