Gardaí probe feud links after gunman attacks home
A masked gunman blasted a house on Sean McDermott Street five times in a dawn attack.
The front-door window and the front door of the house were blown in by the assailant.
The occupants were asleep at the time and no one was injured.
A Garda spokesman said officers at Fitzgibbon Street Station were investigating the shooting, which happened at 5.45am.
“Five shots were fired at a house — three went through a front ground floor window and two went through the front door,” he said.
He said gardaí were appealing for witnesses.
The spokesman said the culprit was described as approximately 1.52m (5ft) in height. He was wearing a black tracksuit with the hood up and a red mask over his face.
He said the gunman was seen running down Gloucester Lane immediately after the incident.
The scene was sealed off for forensic and ballistic examination.
Detectives said they were keeping an “open mind” in relation to the motive behind the attack.
Officers said that as part of the inquiries they would investigate if it is linked in any way with various feuds in the locality.
Top of the list is an increasingly violent feud that has already claimed the life of a young man. Paul Kelly, 26, from Gardiner Street, near Sean McDermott Street, was shot dead by two gunmen in Clontarf last April.
The man behind the murder is thought to be a major drug dealer. Members of the two gangs clashed in a brawl at the Mater Hospital in May.
Detectives will also examine if there is a link with a separate row, which has claimed the lives of two people in the area. The leader of one of the gangs, Christy Griffin, was jailed last January for raping his partner’s daughter.
