Suspect carries Irish passport

THE man arrested in connection with Ireland’s biggest ever cocaine haul has strong Irish links.

The 22-year-old carries an Irish passport and his parents are from Monaghan. Gardaí believe he may have been born in Monaghan. They say he has been living with his parents in Spain in recent years.

Detectives believe a British gang is behind the smuggling operation and the haul was destined for Britain.
