Double joy as sisters wed in lavish ceremony
Their magnificent dresses, each costing €7,350, were made by the same Manchester fashion house which supplied glamour model Jordan with her wedding day gown.
Elaborate hair arrangements were topped off with magnificent tiaras with matching earrings.
Maria, 19, and Teresa, 18, were driven from Clondrina halting site on the Ennis Road in a 30-foot long, white stretch limo and arrived at Christ the King Church in Caherdavin just 15 minutes late.
Brothers Thomas, 18, and John Mongans, 20, were the bridegrooms. They travelled from Shalee Drive in Ennis and arrived a short time earlier with a large family entourage.
The bridal cavalcade included a Vintage 1930s Model A Ford which brought the bridesmaids.
The Mongans brothers proposed to the sisters last Christmas.
Thomas said: “We went first to their father Ned Connors to ask his permission to marry his daughters and we got engaged on New Years eve.”
Thomas married Maria and John married Teresa.
The brothers come from a family of 15 children.
Their mother Ann said: “As the mother of the two boys I wish them all the best. I am proud they have met two lovely girls. They are now my new two beautiful daughters-in-law. They have a fine family behind them. I got married myself when I was 16 and the youngest of our 12 grandchildren was born only five weeks ago.”
One of the many wellwishers who gathered outside the church to catch a glimpse of the brides was their former teacher Mella O’Connor.
She said: “I taught Maria and Teresa at the Salesian girls secondary school where they were educated up to Junior Cert.”
Fr Richard Davern, curate at Christ the King parish, who officiated at the wedding, said he knew the Connors family well.
He said: “I knew the girls since they were at Mary Queen of Ireland primary school. They have a lovely day for their wedding.”
When they return from a two-week honeymoon in the Canary Islands, both couples will live at Clondrina Halting site.
Last night the couple were celebrating their big day at a reception for 70 guests at restaurant outside Limerick city.
