School play area ‘less than space for rearing turkeys’

A PLAY area in a Co Limerick school is less than what is legally required for rearing turkeys, a parent claimed yesterday.

Parents at St James’s primary school in Cappagh warned: “Enough is enough.” In a protest, parents removed their children for one day from the school. Most of the former playground has been developed as part of a major school expansion. Parents claim children are kept in all day as there is no place for them to play outside in safety.

Anita Hawkins Lyons, who has two sons attending St James’s, said all the school required was €50,000 from the Department of Education to lay tarmacadam on school ground.
