Community grieves for woman and ‘wonderful boy’

Yesterday morning, relatives of the four-year-old drew the curtains in his bedroom knowing that he will never again see those Liverpool colours, or the teddies lined up on the windowsill.

The quiet road at Corrin Drive in Ballyhea, north Cork, which was home to Evan and his mother Eileen Murphy, who both died in Tuesday’s tragic events at the Cliffs of Moher, was quiet yesterday as friends struggled to deal with the enormity of what had happened to their neighbours. One woman from the road, a good friend of Eileen, burst into tears upon being informed of the news early in the morning and later went out to meet other friends and relatives of the 25-year-old, who herself was said to be quiet and shy, from a respected family in nearby Churchtown.
