Campaign to reopen sex assault unit

MORE than 9,000 signatures have been collected in support of a campaign to reopen a sexual assault treatment unit in Tralee, which has been closed because of a lack of funding.

A steering group is continuing the campaign and a meeting is being sought with Health Minister Mary Harney with a view to securing funds.

Just under €50,000, mainly for paying on-call nursing staff, is needed to reopen the unit at Kerry General Hospital.
