Researchers at Cork Institute of Technology’s new Technologies for Embedded Computing (TEC) centre are also working with another local company on a new system that will allow publicans measure the weight of beer kegs and monitor how much beer is being consumed.

Centre director Kieran Delaney said these two projects were examples of how the centre will continue to work with companies in the region on hi-tech solutions for them.

The centre team will design electronics systems that can be embedded into objects like CD players, kitchen appliances, cars and medical systems.

Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin opened the centre yesterday.

It has received €1.25 million in funding from Enterprise Ireland under their Applied Research Enhancement programme.

It is hoped that as the centre develops, up to eight researchers will be employed by the end of the year.
