Science adds a few strings to its bow at UL

The UL Science Week has been organised to excite interest in the sciences among young students and to illustrate the great potential of careers in science.

One of the week’s big events was Superstrings, which came to Limerick after performances in the US, Europe and Asia.

The stars of Superstrings are Brian Foster, a professor of physics at Oxford, and Jack Liebeck, an accomplished violinist.

Prof Foster said: “Albert Einstein was not only a Nobel Prize winning theoretical physicist, but also a keen violinist. Superstrings brings elem- ents of all together by incorporating a present- ation linking Einstein’s favourite instrument, the violin, with many of the concepts of modern physics.”

Science Week was organised by the college of science at UL and linked to National Science Week.
