Hallowe’en attacks halt Limerick bus service
One of the two houses fire-bombed in Moyross early yesterday was the former family home of Frankie Ryan, the McCarthy Dundon gang member who was shot dead on September 17.
The home of another McCarthy Dundon gang members was also fire-bombed at around the same time.
Both houses are located in Delmege Park.
Mr Ryan’s father, who was at home at the time, escaped injury when a petrol bomb was thrown into the front sitting room.
Meanwhile, gardaí in Limerick are still trying to find out the circumstances in which a Polish national received serious leg injuries when he fell from a third-storey window in a city centre apartment building in Henry Street at 7.15pm on Tuesday night.
Supt Gerry Mahon said they do not believe there was any sinister motivation behind the incident.
The injured man underwent surgery at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital and his condition is said to be comfortable.
Eye witnesses said a TV crashed out through the window of the apartment moments before a man was seen falling on to the street below.
Bus Eireann said more than €30,000 worth of damage was caused to buses in Limerick city’s fleet during attacks on Tuesday night. All city services were suspended at 7pm after a series of attacks in which rocks, bags of flour and eggs were flung at buses as they passed through city estates.
