Woman on housing list given ‘sex or Moyross’ ultimatum by council worker
The woman made the allegation some weeks ago claiming she was told by the council employee if she wanted a move from Moyross where she is a tenant she would have to keep the bedroom door open for him. The tenant claims she was told she would never get out of Moyross unless she continued to sleep with the council employee with whom she had a relationship over a period of time.
The woman is on a council housing transfer list and wants to get out of the troubled estate.
Limerick city manager Tom Mackey said last night that it was their policy not to comment on particular cases and there were normal disciplinary procedures.
Mr Mackey said: “Every complaint is treated fairly and accurately and all staff are entitled to privacy and the same applies for city council tenants.”
Director of Services, Pat Dowling said they have more than 3,500 tenants and 600 staff and issues arise from to time and they had very clear procedures.”
He said ‘due process’ is adhered to. Sources in the council said the woman tenant in Moyross had a relationship with a male employee of the council.
However, she recently told the council employee she wanted to end the relationship.
But according, to her complaint to the city council, the council employee persisted in trying to keep the relationship going.
She is understood to have alleged that the council employee told her that if she did not continue to see him, she would never get another council house elsewhere in the city.
One report indicated that the woman managed to record some of the phone exchanges between them on her cell phone.
A disciplinary hearing has been held and it is believed that the council worker has been suspended without pay for a period of time. He will be deployed to new duties on his return to work.
