Cyclists to campaign for missing
The 70 riders set off from Naas Courthouse tomorrow hoping to highlight the disappearance of persons from the Midlands and Kildare region.
Members of the public are being encouraged to view poster boards detailing missing person cases to see if they can provide any information.
“It is beyond the capacity of most unaffected people to completely comprehend the pain and anguish suffered by the families and friends of these missing persons,” said event spokesperson Dermot Browne.
At Moone the cyclists will say a prayer for Jo Jo Dullard, 21, who was last seen alive on November 9, 1995 having told a friend she was hitching a lift to her Callan, Co Kilkenny, home.
The riders, who are members of cycling clubs, will meet the family of missing Tullamore woman Fiona Pender, who disappeared more than 10 years ago.
Aged 25 and seven months pregnant, Fiona was last seen alive at her flat on Church Street on August 23, 1996.
Mr Browne, who is chairperson of Missing in Ireland Support Service (MISS) said: “We’re all familiar with the term ‘missing person’ and most people can easily recall high profile cases, some going back for many years.”
