Tall Ships’ buzz captured in special calendar

THE Tall Ships’ Race has been and gone but the spirit and buzz which made the event so special is captured in images which have selected for a new calendar.

Tall Ships’ buzz captured in special calendar

A dozen photos taken by one of Ireland’s leading photographers during Waterford’s hosting of the race feature in the charity calendar launched by Cllr Hilary Quinlan, Mayor of Waterford.

The Waterford City Council calendar, which will benefit four charities with strong Waterford links - Aware; Assisi House; Irish Society for Autism and the Waterford Hospice Movement - features photos by Dylan Vaughan whose work during July’s event appeared in national and regional newspapers.

Launching the calendar at City Hall at a reception attended by the photographer and representatives from the benefiting charities, Cllr Quinlan said it was an excellent reminder of four amazing days for Waterford, when 450,000 visitors were attracted to the city’s quays and the Suir Estuary.

“The mix of photos in this calendar really captures the remarkable time our city had over the days from July 6-9 as we enjoyed the tremendous spectacle of the visiting Tall Ships along with the huge number of visitors that they attracted.

“The ships and their crews from all over the world made for a huge visual spectacle and Dylan’s photos capture that very well. Given the worthy causes that sales of this calendar will support and the excellent publication that it is, I would encourage as many Waterford people as possible to buy copies in the run up to Christmas. In fact, the calendars would make great Christmas gifts for family and friends at home and overseas.”

The Mayor also congratulated city council officials who co-ordinated production of the calendar and thanked Mr Vaughan for waiving his fees for the featured photographs.

Priced at €10, copies of the calendar will be on sale from Monday, December 5 until Christmas at Waterford City Hall; the City Library on Lady Lane; Ardkeen Library and Waterford Treasures at the Granary as well as at selected retail outlets in the city.
