Jumbo sambo sets a tasty record
Standing 40ft high, this monster munch comprised of:
600 slices of bread.
200 pieces of toast.
65lbs of chicken.
30lbs of coleslaw.
600 strips of bacon.
800 lettuce leaves.
The super sambo was created by employees from O’Brien’s Irish Sandwich Bars in Cork and sponsored by local companies who helped raise 30,000 for the Special Olympic World Games, which will be held in Ireland in June.
“Nine girls from O’Brien’s seven outlets in Cork City were involved in making the sandwiches and 15 people took part in constructing it,” O’Brien’s spokeswoman Elaine Mellon said.
She pointed out that a number of companies, including the Irish Examiner, Johnson Mooney and O’Brien and Castlemahon Foods had donated large amounts of money to the worthy cause. The idea for the fundraiser came from Bill and Leonard Lynch who own the O’Brien’s franchise in Cork.
“We just wanted to support the Special Olympics athletes ,” Bill Lynch said.
Ms Mellon said there were records for the world’s largest and longest sandwich , but none for the tallest.
