€3m Clonmel site to developed

A one-and-a-half acre site in the centre of Clonmel, Co Tipperary which has been sold for almost €3 million will be developed into a mix of shops, offices and residential properties.

€3m Clonmel site to developed

The site at Queen Street was owned by the builder providers company Chadwicks Ltd and has been purchased by two leading Waterford city property developers; Walter Walsh and Patrick Purcell.

The exact purchase price of the prime site has not been disclosed by Clonmel auctioneer Tom Pollard who handled the sale, but it is reliably believed to be close to €3m.

Chadwicks moved to a new premises on Clonmel’s inner relief road three years ago in an expansion of its already substantial business in the town, and the Queen site has remained vacant since.

Plans for the development of the site are now being drawn up and involve retail, office accommodation, and residential units.

The developers have already applied to Clonmel Borough Council for planning permission for an open car park capable of accommodating in excess of 150 vehicles, but ultimately a multi-storey car park facility is envisaged.

The proposed development of the Queen Street site is the latest in a series of multi-million euro developments earmarked for Clonmel, which accumulatively have the potential to create up to 800 jobs.
