Glanmire wait on gaelscoil

PRETTY Éabha Ní Bhrádaigh was among those waiting for the Government last night to sanction a gaelscoil in a growing Cork suburb.

Glanmire wait on gaelscoil

Éabha, aged four, is one of more than 20 children who hope to attend Junior Infants in the new Gaelscoil Uí Drisceoil, scheduled to open in Glanmire’s Old Christian’s rugby club this September.

The Department of Education is expected to announce within days which new primary schools have received ‘official recognition’ ensuring they get State funding.

Éabha’s mother, Linda, who is a member of the founding committee of Gaelscoil Uí Drisceoil, said excitement was building ahead of the announcement. Since its establishment early in 2005, the committee has presented a strong case for a gaelscoil in Glanmire, an area with a population of over 15,000, Linda said.

“The next steps are to complete the process of recruitment of the new teachers for the school and to organise the equipping of each classroom with suitable furniture and fittings,” she said.

“We know we have a tough few months ahead, putting the last pieces of the jigsaw into place but the excitement is mounting.

The committee will host a public meeting at 8pm on April 27 at Old Christian’s Rugby Club, Rathcooney.

Enrolments are still being accepted with details from gaelscoilgleannmaghair.com.
