Students pleased with maths papers

THE higher level Leaving Certificate maths papers raised a few question marks from teachers but students at St Patrick’s College in Cork were pleased enough.

Students pleased with maths papers

Sarah Holmes said it was harder than in previous years, particularly a question about the Newton-Raphson method.

“I thought the best part was the integration question, I like the second papers so it should be a bit better when that comes up on Monday,” she said.

Sarah expects to do best in accounting, in which she hopes to study for a degree at University College Cork.

Joyce Tobin said the first three questions on the higher level paper were fine but she was not looking forward to the afternoon Irish paper or biology next week. She plans to study accounting or multimedia next year.

Amanda Looney said the ordinary level paper was alright, although part (c) of some questions were difficult.

She is most looking forward to the geography paper on Monday but faces her toughest subject when she finishes with business on Wednesday.

Donna Grimes said the ordinary level paper was as she expected, and she thought the complex numbers question was easy.

She was particularly pleased when Yeats and Boland both came up in the previous afternoon’s second English paper.

Donna hopes to do a CERT catering course at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) next year, and to continue working as a chef.

However, she must wait until next Wednesday to finish her Leaving Certificate when she does her business exam.
