Man accused of threatening prison officers extradited
John Dundon, from Hyde Road, Prospect, Limerick, is charged with threatening to kill or cause serious harm to Sean Heuston at William Street on December 5, 2001.
He is also charged with threatening to damage the home of Diarmuid Kelly at Limerick Prison on August 21, 2001.
The 24-year-old was escorted back from Manchester on foot of two circuit court warrants.
Detective Sergeant Eamonn O’Neill of Henry Street Station gave evidence that on August 26 at Cork Airport he arrested the accused on foot of two extradition warrants issued by the Limerick Circuit Court. He cautioned the accused and in reply the accused had nothing to say. The witness showed Dundon the notice of the extradition warrants. Garda Inspector John Scanlon of Henry Street Station told Judge Peter Smithwick, president of the District Court, that having been transported back to Limerick, the accused was served with a copy of the original warrants when he was arrested in Cork.
Inspector Scanlon applied for the accused to be returned for trial to the next sitting of the circuit court on October 7.
Aeneas McCarthy, solicitor for Dundon, said his client had already been returned for trial to the circuit court on foot of the charges.
Dundon was remanded in custody to the next sitting of Limerick Circuit Court on October 7.
