Hospital discharges two women injured in Dublin Bus quay tragedy

TWO women injured in the Dublin Bus Wellington Quay crash were discharged from hospital yesterday.

Two other women continue to receive treatment in hospital following the crash three weeks ago. Both are in a stable condition.

Five people died and seven were seriously injured when the double decker bus mounted the footpath and ploughed into a group about to board the number 66 service to west Dublin.

The seven injured, all women aged from their 20s to 40s, were taken to three different hospitals.

A spokesman for St James’s Hospital said three women were admitted on Saturday, February 21. “Two of these patients have been discharged from hospital and the remaining patient is described as stable, not critical,” the spokesman said.

A lone woman, admitted to St Vincent’s, remains in hospital. Her condition is described as stable. All four treated in the Mater Hospital have been released.

An inquiry team, headed by Dublin Bus board member Arnold O’Byrne, is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.

It is expected the team, made up of Dublin Bus officials and international transport experts, will issue preliminary findings within two weeks.

A separate garda investigation is being carried out before any decision is taken whether to pursue a criminal prosecution.
