Drama means a wedding day to remember

THE rings went missing, fire alarms went off at the height of the church ceremony and a baby was almost born - was this the most eventful wedding of 2005?

Drama means a wedding day to remember

It’s said your wedding day will always be one of the most memorable moments in your life. For Owen O’Reilly, Kildare and Caroline Greenlee, Greystones it was a day they could never forget.

As the New Year’s Eve wedding party was getting ready for the event at Ballyseedy, Co Kerry, the first drama of the day unfolded - the rings went missing as did the groom’s wedding suit.

Groomsman Declan Monahan from Kildare went off to Tralee in search of a replacement suit.

While returning to their hotel his partner announced the impending arrival of their first baby.

Catherine Monahan and Declan then rushed to Tralee General Hospital where maternity staff told him he had time to get the church and maybe on time.

“I got to the church just as the bride was walking up the aisle,” he said.

During the exchange of wedding vows, the fire alarms went off, apparently triggered by a smouldering candle.

“While the fire alarm was being investigated, the groom had the opportunity to explain to his bride that the rings, and a watch which he had bought for her as a wedding present, were missing,” Declan explained.

After the church ceremony the groomsman hot footed back to the hospital where he was told he could probably show his face at the reception as the baby wasn’t yet ready to debut.

Little Aimee was eventually born on Sunday at 2.55pm.

Tralee gardaí are anxious to trace the whereabouts of the missing wedding rings, watch and suit.

They can be contacted at (066) 7102300.
