LOYALIST terror group the Ulster Freedom Fighters yesterday issued a warning to the wife of jailed paramilitary boss Johnny “Mad Dog” Adair to stay out of Northern Ireland.

A hoax device was left outside the home of Gina Adair’s mother in the Shankill area of west Belfast amid reports that she was in the city to visit her husband at Maghaberry Prison.

In a statement, the UFF warned any visits by Adair’s supporters “would not pass without incident” and said anyone associating with them would not be tolerated within the loyalist community.

In February, Mrs Adair and a number of associates of her husband, including John White, fled from the Lower Shankill area after being threatened by the UFF. It followed the murder of Adair’s bitter enemy, the UDA’s East Antrim brigadier John Gregg, gunned down as he returned home from a Rangers’ match in Glasgow.

Last month, the UFF murdered one of Adair’s closest associates. Alan McCullough, 20, was shot dead and his body dumped in a shallow grave after he returned home from England. Two men have been charged with the murder.

Loyalist sources said Mrs Adair had already visited her husband a number of times since being expelled from the North. But UDA leaders were said to be angry at her public return this week.

It is believed she returned home from Bolton on Sunday and went to her mother’s home under police escort. “It seems to be very much in your face, perhaps as a prelude to Adair getting out,” said a loyalist source.

Mrs Adair has made clear her desire to return to the North, saying she is unhappy living in Bolton.
