Union says meeting could have resolved Dunnes issue

A TRADE union official told an Employment Appeals Tribunal that a problem regarding a Dunnes Stores employee in Tralee could have been resolved if the store manager agreed to meet him.

Mandate divisional organiser Jim O’Connell said Pierce Gordon, manager of Dunnes in Bridge Street, Tralee, refused to meet him on May 4, 2004 because it was the company’s policy not to recognise the union.

An employee in the store, Alan Moore, had asked to be accompanied by Mr O’Connell at a meeting arranged with the manager.
