Two arrests in teen attack

TWO men have been arrested by gardaí following an attack on a teenager outside the gates of Tralee General Hospital.

The man was beaten around the head by two men wielding hurleys before lunchtime on Thursday.

Gardaí were alerted after workers at the hospital saw the injured man, who sustained severe but not life-threatening injuries.

The attackers arrived at the scene in a car before attacking their victim, who was still being treated for injuries in hospital last night.

The assailants then sped away in a red hatchback saloon car.

The young man was in the company of others at the time of the attack, but he was the only one targeted.

There was a funeral in a nearby cemetery when the attack took place and gardaí have appealed for witnesses.

A 37-year-old man was arrested in Tralee before 6pm on Thursday and was held for several hours in Tralee garda station before being released later that night.

The man was held under section four of the Criminal Justice Act and gardaí are sending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A second man, aged 36, was arrested in the town yesterday morning. Gardaí are not looking for any other suspects.

The attack is thought to be linked to a family feud and gardaí described it as very serious.

“We’re treating this as a very serious attack. We can confirm that we’re not looking for any other suspects at this stage,” a Tralee garda spokesperson said.
