Banks deny Brinks row cash claims

Talks were continuing last night to break the deadlock in the strike which entered its second week yesterday.

A Bank of Ireland spokesperson said the claims that bank vaults were bulging with cash was not an issue with them. They were managing in terms of recycling money and were disappointed by “scaremongering” at the weekend.

“Bank of Ireland have a high level of ATMs in the affected east coast area and only 68 of them are out which is only a small proportion of our network.”

The bank say they are managing very well in terms of recycling cash.

An Irish Payment Services Organisation spokesperson said they were continuing to maintain a 93% level of service. There had been no problem with money building up in banks and money was being recirculated.

Last week SIPTU members voted by 36 to 24 to reject the company’s latest offer and the union has called on the company to return to the Labour Court in a bid to settle the dispute over the introduction of new security vehicles.
