ONE in four people will be affected by a mental health problem at some point in their lives.

Mental Health Commission chairman Dr John Owens said mental health problems cost the state more than 2.4 billion every year.

The impact of mental health problems on the community was consistently underestimated, said Dr Owens when he launched the commission’s first report in Dublin yesterday.
