Divers brought in to search for brothers

GARDA divers have been drafted in to help in the search for two Limerick brothers abducted last week.

Divers brought in to search for brothers

Kieran Ryan, 19, and Eddie 20, were bundled into a car on Thursday night. Despite a massive manhunt, gardaí are no closer to finding the two men or locating their bodies. Their mother Mary Ryan, says she has given up any hope of finding her sons alive.

Mrs Ryan’s husband Eddie was shot dead in the Moose Bar in the city in 2000, sparking a series of tit-for-tat incidents between two families.

Gardaí last night confirmed the sub aqua team would join in the search today. Rough waters yesterday prevented the team searching rivers and lakes close to the city. Extra gardaí from Clare and Cork have also been sent to Limerick to boost the search.

It’s understood divers will focus on a part of river close to Ardnacrusha in Co Clare which is less than five miles from where the men were abducted on the Moylish road. Up to 50 soldiers from Limerick and Clonmel yesterday joined gardaí to search Cratloe Woods seven miles from their home.

Gardaí using sniffer dogs searched an area close to Woodcock and Gallows Hill in Cratloe and are looking at the possibility the men may have been taken to the edge of Cratloe Woods.

Gardaí have been unable to trace the car used in the abduction, but haven’t ruled out the possibility of finding the men alive. An army spokesperson said the force will continue to help.

Friends and family of the Ryans are continuing to search a wide area on the Clare\Limerick border.
