Government fast-food fat-tax is extreme, says Supermacs boss

THE head of one of the countries largest fast-food chains has described proposals to introduce a ‘fat tax’ as ‘another example of the Government taking the American situation to an extreme’.

Pat McDonagh, founder and owner of Supermacs, said yesterday the raft of ‘nanny-state’ legislation being introduced, or proposed, by government would kill entrepreneurship in Ireland if the government did ‘not cop themselves on’.

The indigenous fast-food chain, with 50 outlets nationwide, employs 1,800 people.
