Sewage schemes to help boost water quality

A SERIES of new sewage schemes in the Killarney area, part of an €82 million investment, should help improve water quality in Lough Lein.

Sewage schemes to help boost water quality

The picture postcard lake has been polluted for more than 30 years. But work is due to start this year on sewage schemes in the lake’s catchment, including the Killarney main drainage project and schemes for Kilcummin and Barraduff.

Kerry County Council had plans for schemes but was unable to carry out the work in the absence of funding. Now €82.4m is being made available as part of a national €5bn programme which also includes water schemes in Kenmare and the Kerry central regional scheme, which services much of the county.
