New Peugeot 5008 to be unveiled at Paris Motor Show this month
A departure from its former traditional MPV body shape, the new 5008 breaks ground as a large 7-seater SUV to meet consumer demand in an emerging segment. The new 5008 SUV will launch in Europe next spring, hot on the heels of the new Peugeot 2008 SUV, a huge commercial success since its launch this summer, and the much-anticipated new 3008 SUV, due at the end of 2016.
The Peugeot 5008 SUV aims to build on the strong commercial success of the existing Peugeot 5008 MPV, the best-selling compact 7-seater MPV in Ireland in 2016.
Three clear objectives have been set: To pursue the brand’s move upmarket strategy, to be an international success and to become the benchmark in the large seven-seater SUV C-segment, a segment that is still developing, with real demand and a lot of potential.
The all-new 5008 has all the hallmarks of an SUV: long, horizontal bonnet; vertical face; raised body line. A wide grille, at the centre of which stands the Brand’s Lion, feline headlamps and distinctive front bumper exude power and assertiveness. The gloss black strip along the bottom of the rear window sets the latest breed of Peugeot SUVs apart. Signature LED claw effect rear lights clearly identify it as a Peugeot, while a wide tailgate and low boot sill hint at just how spacious and practical this car is.
Lower, more spacious and less bulky than its competitors, it retains the same height as before of 1.64m, with roof bars standard on all models. An increased length to 4.64m (+11cm) and increased width (+11cm) over the previous 5008 MPV model, ensure there is more room for occupants.
Despite its larger size, it offers astonishing levels of agility. Weighing 95 kg less than the original 5008, the vehicle’s aerodynamic design and optimized external dimensions give it one of the lowest drag areas in the segment at 0.76 m2. Ultra-low resistance 17”, 18”, or Michelin slimline 19” (205 55 R19) tyres further accentuate the overall performance.
The SUV houses an innovative configuration with 3 matching, separate, folding and tilting seats in the second row and 2 removable, separate, folding seats in the third row.
