Hyundai has high hopes for revamped crossover Tucson
The all new Hyundai Tucson — the ‘Tucson’ name has been revived for some reason — is expected to compete directly with the ‘king of the crossovers’, the Nissan Qashqai. Quite where this leaves the brand’s existing segment contender the ix35, remains something of a mystery, but for now anyway, the Tuscon is bound to create a fair level of excitement.
The model line-up will consist of five 5 trim levels: the Tucson Comfort, the Tucson Comfort Plus, the Tucson Executive, the Tucson Premium and the Tucson Premium Plus.
There will be a choice of petrol and diesel engines and in the Tuscon Comfort range the 1.6 litre 2WD petrol version will retail from €25,245 while the 1.7 litre 2WD diesel version will retail from € 26,995 (with both prices excluding delivery and related charges).
Standard specification on the Tucson Comfort range will include stuff like automatic lights, 16” alloys, a tyre pressure monitoring system, LED day time running lights, radio with 3.5” TFT LCD, steering wheel remote, USB + AUX, manual air con, a real spare wheel and auto cruise with speed limiter.
Hyundai ups the ante with the Comfort Plus, and the 1.7 litre diesel 2WD version will retail from €27,995 and added equipment will include 17” wheels , auto air con., electric folding mirrors, front and rear skid plates, flex steering and various other bits and bobs.
The Tuscon Executive will add an option of 4WD and while 1.7 litre diesel 2WD Tucson executive version will retail from €29,995, the 2.0 litre diesel 4WD manual executive version will retail from €35,495 and the 2.0 litre diesel 4WD Automatic executive version will retail from €37,995. Added kit here will include sat nav, a shark fin antenna, an 8” touch screen, a rear view camera, front seat warmers and leather seats.
Premium models will add a panoramic roof, interior electro-chromatic mirror and rain sensing wipers and the Tucson premium 1.7 litre diesel 2WD will retail from €31,995, while the Premium Plus version 1.7 litre diesel 2WD will retail from €35,995 and will have a lot of decorative additions and electronic safety kit.
Hyundai obviously has a lot of confidence in this new model and we will be testing it here shortly, so watch this space for more on this intriguing South Korean contender. In the meantime, the car is on sale at company dealerships nationwide.
