In my last column of 2015 I was going to go focus on the wine highlights of the year but in fact there have been far more landmarks in the spirit world here in Ireland.

The first spirits of the newly- established Boann Distillery in Drogheda which is to create 80 jobs will flow in late 2015 marking the realisation of a €20m investment in the facility.

A city famous for its stouts and craft beers is now set to shake up the spirits world thanks to the humble spud.
