IN his column (Examiner County, April 20), Peter Levy wrote about the restriction that the ESB’s cross river pylons were having on the Tall Ships entering Cork’s upper harbour and how this was impacting on the possibility of the Tall Ships race returning to Cork.

THE selection of George Lee as a candidate was as much about Fine Gael taking the easy option to win the seat by putting up a celebrity vote catcher.

I CANNOT believe the rubbish I am reading about pensioners contributing for care. Most would have contributed throughout their working life and are entitled to be looked after by the State.

THE eagerness to help deprived nations is typical of our own hypocrisy. There are plenty of worthy causes and hungry people in Ireland, so let’s get our own house in order first before we rush to the aid of strangers.

I’M delighted to see that our elected representatives can break tax laws, pay massive sums to the Criminal Assets Bureau, and we still give them €80,000 yearly pensions.
