An 81-year-old woman has died in hospital following a road traffic collision last week in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

Christmas in Ballinasloe, Co Galway has been overshadowed after a father from the town died and his son was injured in a crash yesterday.

Gardaí in Mayo are looking for witnesses following a collision in Castlebar at around 1.30pm this afternoon.

Efforts to bring widespread gorse fires in the north-west under control are continuing this morning.

Firefighters on both sides of the border are this morning tackling three gorse fires which have broken out in counties Donegal, Mayo and Down.
