Mayo pensioner dies following accident last week

An 81-year-old woman has died in hospital following a road traffic collision last week in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

The female pedestrian was struck by a car as she crossed the Pontoon Road in the town at about 1.30pm on Monday, December 23.

She was taken by ambulance to Mayo General Hospital but lost her fight for life late yesterday evening.

The incident is under investigation by Gardaí and any witnesses are asked to contact Castlebar Garda Station on 094 9038200.
