WESTMEATH and Carlow have got their way in forcing a change to the Christy Ring final date and venue, moving the fixture from Croke Park tomorrow night to Tullamore on Sunday evening.

The 2008 Christy Ring Cup final will now take place in Tullamore on Sunday afternoon (throw-in 6pm), after both counties requested to have the game rescheduled.

MINISTER MCDOWELL commented on TV, after the launch of the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner, to the effect that the work permit system is there for people who are genuinely looking for work and who are to some extent escaping "economic" persecution (ie. poverty), and not "State" persecution as is the case when one applies for refugee status in Ireland.
