Playing with the strong wind behind them holders Killenaule opened the scoring with a pointed Joe Caesar free within a minute of the start but scores from Vinnie Doheny, Eoin Kelly and his brother Paul, saw Mullinahone ahead 0-4 to 0-1 after six minutes.

An improving Killenaule responded with seven unanswered points from Michael Farrell, Joe Caesar, Declan Fanning, Tony Doyle, Pat Kerwick and Philip Blake to lead 0-8 to 0-4.
