AN active trade among shippers for the pick of the show animals boosted weanling bull prices to a record €4/kg at the 9th Annual National Winter Fair Show and Sale, which was the largest and most successful to date.

THE 7,000 Tullamore Dew All-Ireland brood mare and foal championship at Iverk Show, at Kildalton College in Co Kilkenny, was won by Jim Tempany, Skreen, Co Sligo.

A 22-month-old pedigree heifer has won the All Ireland Aberdeen Angus Championship of 2004, and a unique once-off Championship medal, for a Co Meath breeder.

IRISH livestock breeders are ready for the new farming era, said Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association president, John Deegan, at last Sunday’s AIB National Livestock Show in Tullamore.
