Tullamore Dew win for Sligo mare and foal

THE 7,000 Tullamore Dew All-Ireland brood mare and foal championship at Iverk Show, at Kildalton College in Co Kilkenny, was won by Jim Tempany, Skreen, Co Sligo.

He took the 2,540 prize ahead of Enniskeane, Co Cork exhibitor Kieran Fahy, who won 1,000.

The third prize, of 600, in a final with 20 contenders, went to William Little, Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone.

Jay Bowe, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford won the young horse championship and Willie Ryan, Woodstown, Co Waterford, captured the ridden hunter championship, with George Chapman, Gorey showing both the young ridden reserves.

Michael McGrath, Cloyne, Co Cork, won the dairy championship from Sean, Eileen and John Curtin, Kilmallock, Co Limerick.

Other championship winners and runners up were Trevor Dudley, Thurles (reserve: G T Brennan, Freshford, Co Kilkenny) in Hereford; Leo McEnroe, Virginia, Co Cavan (P J Fitzgibbon, Boher, Co Limerick) in Aberdeen Angus; Martin Ryan, Thurles in Belgian Blue; Jim and Ailish Ryan, Kilmeaden, Co Waterford (who also took the reserve prize) in Blonde d'Aquitaine; and Dan Tynan, Mountrath, Co Laois (James Muldowney, Woodsgift, Co Tipperary) in Limousin; Jim and Ivan Ryall, Castlemartyr, Co Cork (T J Sugrue, Bennetsbridge, Co Kilkernny) in Charolais; Michael Landers, Kilbehenny, Co Limerick (Michael Hannon, Adare, Co Limerick) in Commercial.
